International Residencies - Ethno Argentina

Ethno Argentina is an international music and cultural exchange festival. Present in more than 45 countries and across 5 continents, Ethno is a program of JMI (Jeunesses Musicales International) focused on world folk music. Founded in 1990, it is aimed at young artists worldwide with the mission to revive and preserve the cultural heritage of every community and nation. This initiative is carried out in Argentina by the QuéMambo! Non-Profit Organization, an associate member of JMI.

Ethno engages young people through a series of annual international music camps, as well as workshops, concerts, and tours, collaborating with schools, conservatories, and other youth groups to promote peace, tolerance, and understanding.

The essence of Ethno is its focus on democratic peer-to-peer learning, where young people teach each other the music of their respective countries and cultures. This non-formal pedagogy has been refined over the last 33 years, adopting the principles of intercultural dialogue and understanding as its operational foundation. Ethno offers a unique opportunity for young people from around the world to come together and connect through music in an environment defined by respect, generosity, and openness.

Ethno's goal is to inspire musicians through these interactions to deepen their musical interests and build a global network to support their projects. Each Ethno camp combines workshops, jam sessions, rehearsals, and performances that enable participants to develop both personal and professional skills. Through Ethno, musicians gain a deeper appreciation of one another's cultures. At Ethno, music serves as a powerful tool that fosters inclusion, understanding, and acceptance of others.
