Ethno Argentina - International residences

Ethno Argentina is an international festival of music and cultural exchange. Present in more than 45 countries and 6 continents, Ethno is a programme of JMI (Jeunesses Musicales International) with a focus on world folk music. Founded in 1990, it is aimed at young artists from all over the world with the mission to revive and maintain the cultural heritage of each people and nation. This initiative is carried out in Argentina by the QueMambo! Civil Association, an associate member of the JMI.

Ethno engages young people through a series of annual international music camps, workshops, concerts and tours, working with schools, conservatories and other youth groups to promote peace, tolerance and understanding.

The essence of Ethno is the focus on democratic peer-to-peer learning, whereby young people teach each other the music of their countries and cultures. It is a non-formal pedagogy that has been refined over the last 33 years, adopting the principles of intercultural dialogue and understanding as the basis for operation. Ethno offers a unique opportunity for young people from all over the world to come together and engage through music in a way that is characterised by respect, generosity and openness.

Ethno aims to inspire musicians through these interactions to deepen their musical interests and build a global network to support their projects. Each Ethno camp combines workshops, jam sessions, rehearsals and performances that allow participants to develop their personal and professional skills. Through Ethno, musicians gain a deeper understanding of each other's cultures. At Ethno, music is a powerful tool that fosters inclusion, understanding and acceptance of others.
